UKZN ACADEMIC AND SUPPORT STAFF ATTEND DATA ANALYTICS WORKSHOP

A group of 20 UKZN academics and support staff attended a workshop hosted by the UKZN Teaching & Learning Office (UTLO) aimed at developing Data Analytics and Institutional Research (IR) capabilities within the university.

The five-day workshop was presented by internationally renowned Professor Victor Borden, a Professor of Educational Leadership at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. Professor Borden is also a senior advisor to the Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs. His general area of scholarship is the assessment of organizational performance within higher education institutions.

Using the gateway courses at UKZN as a thematic lens, the workshop enabled participants to apply data analytics tools and best-practices to real-world institutional data. By critically analysing institutional data and deriving actionable insights into institution-wide challenges, participants acquired critical skills which will enhance decision-making capabilities among within the institution.

Participants in the 5 Day Workshop included UKZN’s Institutional Intelligence (II) staff, School Managers, Directors of Professional Services, and academics. The workshop was rated by participants as exceptional, allowing members to gain deep insights into Institutional Research, but also opportunities to network and harness energies towards the common goal of enhancing institutional development.
