Staff Bio
Predashni Vengasamy was first employed at the University of Natal in 2003 as a finance administrator and then continued as a Trainee Accountant at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal (UKZN) in 2005.Her many years at UKZN has enabled her to gain exposure in various departments including Finance; The University Merger office; and the Infrastructure, Planning and Projects office.  She is currently seconded to the University Teaching and Learning Office (UTLO) as the Principal Accounting Officer. Her role includes the approval of the day- to- day finance expenses, the allocation and monitoring of the UTLO council- controlled budget as well as interim reporting on the expenditure. Her function also comprises the overseeing of the Department of Higher Education (DHET)/ Foundation Provision Grant.
Her duties involve the compilation of audit templates as well as liaising with the external auditors. Interim reports are also sent to the various Deans on the status of their Foundation Provision expenditure to date. The other externally funded grant under her supervision is the KRESGE grant. It is an interesting programme which assists academic staff to identify modules that students struggle with and the programme aims to provide additional support for those modules. Her duties also include other DHET funded collaborative grants that require her supervision of the grant funds and the compilation of financial statements for the funders.
Predashni graduated from the UKZN’s College of Law and Management with a Master of Accounting (Taxation) in 2025. Her research studies was based on a study on a Value Added Tax Apportionment Ruling at South African Universities. Being passionate about Taxation, she graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma from University of South Africa in 2015 as well as completing an Advanced Accounting Programme in VAT. Her undergraduate degree is a commerce degree -Bachelor of Accounting Sciences – majoring in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation (UNISA). She attends taxation workshops regularly to keep abreast with legislation changes.
Her skills include strong audit co-ordination, accounting skills, taxation and reporting. Her working experience includes the monitoring and reporting on government grants, deferred revenue calculations, project management, capital commitment exercises as well as calculation of depreciation of capital expenses.
Predashni’s tenure at UKZN has widened her institutional knowledge and enabled her to ensure university and finance policies are adhered and encompasses the REACH principles towards the premier university of African scholarship.
